Where the museum is and what it covers

The museum stands in Barriu Llacín, in Porrúa, about 4 km from Llanes. Its rural buildings date from the 18th and 19th centuries, and the grounds form a public park with fruit and woodland trees.

The collection links everyday life at home with work and activity in fields, mountains, forests, pastures and rivers, as well as schools and fountains. The Llacín house display brings together a traditional farmhouse, granary, stable and cider press to evoke life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Displays also cover clothing, household utensils, crafts and occupations, cheese and butter, tilemaking, agricultural tools, basketry and enamelled iron. The museum’s story began with Teresa Sordo Sordo and Luis Haces Sordo, who donated the Llacín houses and land in 1994.

Their donation led to the Llacín Cultural Association, which promoted and manages the museum. It opened on 10 July 2000.
